Memorial de la Shoah will be in New
York June 10-11
On
June 10 and 11 (Monday and Tuesday), representatives of the Mémorial
de la Shoah in Paris will be meeting with survivors from all
countries as well as their family members to scan treasured
photographs and documents of all types, from all countries. The
scanned images will become part of the permanent collection of
Mémorial de la Shoah, the preeminent repository of Holocaust archives
in Europe. The Mémorial de la Shoah, located in the heart of
Paris, is a critically important institution. In addition to maintaining
its massive archives, it functions as an important educational and
cultural center and sacred place of remembrance. Your
participation in this scanning event will ensure that your family’s
story will be accessible to scholars and will contribute to
their research.
You and your family members and descendants are invited to
participate in this event. Bring along all of the kinds of items
that help tell the story of your life and family before and during
the war – photographs, letters, drawings, journals, diaries,
school reports, identity cards, passports, ration cards,
visas, official and personal correspondence regarding efforts to
emigrate, etc. We at the Shoah Memorial are interested in
scanning all of these types of items, regardless of whether they are
from France or other
countries. Please bring originals if possible. If originals are not
available, bring very good copies.
If you like, you may receive an electronic file containing scans of
all of your photos and written
documents. This file will be a valuable resource that you may keep or
share with others.
The scanning of archives on June 10 and 11, 2024, will take place at
the following location:
Selfhelp Community Services, Inc.
520 Eighth Avenue (between 36 th and 37 th Streets), 5 th Floor
New York, New York 10018
