THE JEWISH HERITAGE DAY IN BULGARIA
The Jewish Heritage Day took place in Sofia on September 18th, totally organised by the Carmel Lodge, and announced on the National Radio 3 days before by Solomon Bali, President of the Carmel Lodge together with Reni Pilossof and Solomon Frances.
The event was officially opened in the morning with a concert atthe Beit Am Jewish Cultural Centre, attended by over 150 people. Various pieces by Jewish Composers were performed by a trio led by Professor Mayer Frank, a member of the Lodge. The keynote speaker was the Mayor of Sofia.
Later in the morning, the photo exhibition organised by Solomon Frances on the subject "Facing the Future" was officially opened in the presence of the Mayor of Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai and the Mayor of Sofia, Ms. Fandokova. The event was attended by over 200 people and widely covered in the media.
The day ended with a documentary film about the Tzadikov Choir organised by Sister Svetlana Avdala. The screening was followed by a discussion and attended by over 200 people.
In the course of the day the Central Synagogue and the Jewish Museum welcomed between 100 and 200 visitors.
The children from the local BBYO group were very helpful during the day and had organised a projection of their activities early in the afternoon
All the events were completely organised by Solomon Bali, President of the Carmel Lodge together with Sister Reni Pilossof and Brother David Benjoseph who did an excellent promotional job on Facebook and on the website.
