US may stop funding UNWRA

WASHINGTON —US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said the US may stop funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) if the Palestinians continue to refuse negotiations with Israel.

Asked by a journalist whether the US would maintain UNRWA funding in light of Palestinian envoy to the UN, Riyad Mansour’s, threat to “unleash all the weapons we have in the UN,” Haley suggested future funding might be conditional on the Palestinians returning to the negotiating table. She said: “As of now, they’re not coming to the table, but they ask for aid. We’re not giving the aid, we’re going to make sure they come to the table and we want to move forward with the peace process.”
