Subject: Notice: May Executive Meeting

Dear Colleagues:

This is a preliminary notice regarding the May meeting of the ICJW Executive. Additional mailings with further details will follow. However, this notice is sent so that you can begin your own planning to attend and participate in the discussions, decisions, and “sisterhood”. Please save this notice as it contains a good deal of very useful and specific information!!!

As you know, it will be held in London, UK on Monday and Tuesday, 16 and 17 May.

The meeting will be held at WIZO House, which is located in the Mayfair area of London. Specific address is 107 Gloucester Place, London W1.

The meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on both days. We will adjourn at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, and at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The agenda on Tuesday will include a visit to the Lord Mayor’s home in London, a very extraordinary invitation, arranged through Gillian Gold.

Transportation from WIZO House to the Lord Mayor’s home will be arranged. Details to follow.

Final adjournment following the visit to the Lord Mayor’s home estimated to be 5:00 p.m.

Meals

Information regarding the cost per person for the meals during the two days of our meeting will follow. The decision of the Executive to SHARE the cost of the meals with those attending the meetings will, of course, be observed. However, the full costs are not yet known.

Hotels

There are a number of hotels in the vicinity of WIZO House. WIZO has recommended a hotel, the Danubius, in St. Johns Wood which they have used for conference delegates.

Finally, I would appreciate knowing of your interest in attending this meeting as soon as possible so that we can begin to plan the ”details” and of course I hope to see many of you in London! Please advise me of your interest at office@icjw.org

Fond regards to all…    Sharon Gustafson

Subject: jewish women organization

Dear friends,

please find attached some DATA ABOUT JEWISH WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION IN CROATIA.

In Croatia first Jewish women organization was founded in Zagreb in 1887 year under the name "The Israely women society of Jelena Prister".  Their activity is connected with charitable support of poor families,  poor brides, sick old people,  given scholarship for girls in vocational schools and in college etc.

This organisation has continuity till now- and existed even during the Holocaust  ( as women social board) helping prisoners and  hiding children and elderly.

Similar, mainly charitable, organization has been established in all Jewish communities in Croatia ( about 30).

In 1912 the "Israeli Youth Holiday Colony" was fouded and organized special fund for summer  hollidays on seaside for about 200 children per year,  from poor families

After World War I.,  Zionist women's organization was organized as " Zionist girls society" and  later WIZO (1927)

After Holocaust out of 35.000 Jewish women in Yugoslavia, only 7.500 survived, and they mostly migrate to Israel.

About 2.000 women (Holocaust survivors) 1958 united  into "Coordination of Jewish women's sections of Yugoslavia" centralised in Belgrade and later  member of ICJW.

After the  independence of Croatia,  in 90-ties, "Union of Jewish women in Croatia" is formed with affiliates in Zagreb,Split,Osijek and Rijeka, member of ICJW.

  many regards  Melita Švob ,president
