Search "The Joint's" Newly-Released Trove of Holocaust-Era Records
Dear Colleagues:
On Monday, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) announced the launch of its Shared Legacy Project. For the first time in its history, the JDC Archives is making a collection of its historic documents and photographs from the Holocaust period available online. This remarkable new resource enables people to searchdeep inside this massive, newlydigitized collection.
Holocaust survivors and their families can see if a person's name is among the over 500,000 names listed in the materials posted by the JDC - from its work rescuing Jews during and after the Shoah - and, if found, can view and download the document.
People are now able to view over 1,500 photos from 14 countries - of the DP camps and other places, where the JDC worked - and identify the people in the photos. This will help the JDC - known to millions as "The Joint" - fill
in the blanks regarding its impact on Jewish history during this tumultuous era.
To do a search and to see these dramatic materials and photos, visit the web site at:

.
You can read more about this project in the Associated Press article included below.
We would very much appreciate your forwarding this e-mail to those on your organizational and membership lists.
Thank you for your assistance.
