Dear colleagues:
At this writing this I am still in New York attending the UN Commission on the Status of Women conference. However, I do not want to wait until the conference ends, one week from now, to share my pride in our UN NGO team for representing us brilliantly here in New York. And even more specifically, special and unlimited bravo-bravissima raves to Madeleine Brecher, who in her capacity as one of the elected officers of the Commission on the Status of Women, has played an enormous role in presenting this outstanding conference.
This afternoon was ICJW's oppportunity to present our own "Parallel Event", developed and presented by Madeleine on behalf of ICJW together with a presenting partner, the Association of Anglican Women (known as AWE). Our event was entitled "Shout Out", the opportunity to hear from rural women on their realities and challenges when seeking to empower their own communities. It was both well attended and well received, and once again ICJW has presented our concerned and caring face to the world.
This message would be incomplete if I didn't also express great pride in the contribution of June Jacobs to this special conference. June was a moderator at a session presented yesterday which also focused on yet another aspect of the overall Conference theme of "Empowering Rural Women". Thought provoking and well attended, June as a past president of ICJW once again demonstrated how truly remarkable WE are and committed remain to our mission of tikkun olam, no matter where it takes us or how it is expressed!
I'm sure that in future messages as well as future postings on our ICJW website you will all have the opportunity to learn more about both the CSW Conference and the ICJW Parallel Event. But for now, please join me in offering a vote of apprecition both to June and to Madeleine and the rest of our New York NGO team.
Regards, Sharon Gustafson
