Bulgarian Jewish leader receives Pushkin Medal

On June 11, 2013 at a gala ceremony in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sofia, Russian ambassador Yuri Isakov awarded the Medal of Pushkin to Maxim Benvenisti, president of the EJC affiliate, the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom", and to the writer Angel Vagenstein for their contribution to the consolidation and growth of friendship and cooperation with Russia. The high state decoration is bestowed with Decree ?34 of President Vladimir Putin, signed on January 19, 2013.
Bugarski presjednik Židovske zajednice "Shalom" Maxim Benvenisti i pisac Angel Vagenstein su na 11. lipnja 2013, u ruskoj ambasadi primili "medalju Puškina" od ruskog ambasadora u Sofiji Yuri Isakova. Medalje je dodijeljena za njihov doprinos konsolidaciji i porastu prijaljestva i suradnje s Rusijom, To visoko odlikovanje je dekretom broj 34 potpisao predsjednik Vladimir Putin (19.siječnja).

The Medal of Pushkin was established on May 9, 1999
and is awarded to Russian and foreign citizens for achievements in arts and culture, education, humanities and literature, for great contributions to the study and preservation of the cultural heritage, in the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of cultures of nations and peoples. Until now the decoration has been awarded to 799 people from 84 countries, among them present and past heads of state, leaders of international and national organisations and representatives of the arts and culture.
