President Barroso sends Rosh Hashana greetings to Europe's Jews
The outgoing president of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso has sent Rosh Hashana greetings to the jewish communities of Europe. In his message, Barroso recalled a past year that has been difficult and sad for the Jewish Community in Belgium and beyond.
“The horrible attack
on visitors of the Jewish Museum in the heart of Brussels on 24 May that
killed four innocent people put all of us in a state of shock. It was a
cruel attack against our European values which we cannot tolerate and
which we condemned to the utmost,” he wrote.
Globalizacija nije zaustavila terorizam. Nastaviti ćemo našu borbu protiv bilo kojeg oblika terorizma u Europi i dalje..

..Recently, the Jewish Museum re-opened its doors: a powerful triumph over destruction and hatred,” he continued. “This is a strong message at the beginning of this New Year 5775! A year that will see the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and will bring to mind once again the long way of reconciliation, unification and freedom that Europe has experienced since then. Much of this strength we owe to the European project which is and remains our best option to face today's and tomorrow's challenges!
Wishing you and the Jewish community as a whole a year of life, health and prosperity! Shanah Tovah.” The message concluded.
