European Jewish Congress President Dr. Moshe Kantor has warned that with the fading of direct Holocaust memory, Europe is no longer immune from antisemitism. Dr. Kantor was speaking in the European Parliament at the annual ceremony marking International Holocaust Commemoration Day. “The direct memory of the Shoah had immunized European society from the worst manifestations of antisemitism,” said Dr. Kantor. “Without the direct memory of Holocaust survivors we forget and all taboos are broken.”

Predsjednik Europskog Židovskog kongresa dr.  Moshe Kantor je,  prilikom podsjećanja na Holokaust ,   rekao da zbog sve  manjeg  direktnog sjećanja na Holokaust Europa više nije imuna od  antisemitizma. Dr.Kantor je govorio u Europskom parlamentu , na godišnjoj  ceremoniji obilježavanja Internacionalnog dana sjećsanja na Holokaust. 

 Upravo je direktno sjećanje na ŠOA dovelo do imunizacije europskog društva od još gorih manifestacija antisemitizma. Bez takvog direktnog sjećanja osoba koje su preživjele holokausta mi bismo zaboravili i svi tabui bili bi prekršeni.

Prvi puta je ove godine komemoracija obilježila  i Holokaust  šest milijuna Židova i genocid Romske populacije od strane nacista i njihovih suradnika. U svom je govoru  dr. Kantor spomenuo da su još uvijek suočeni s disriminacijom Romi, homoseksualci i nemoćnici, isti koje  su bili žrtve nacista.

“The European Union urgently needs to demonstrate that it will tirelessly defend pluralism and the rule of law.,” Dr. Kantor continued. “What was taboo must not become the norm again in Europe: Racist and antisemitic parties marching down the streets of our capitals and filling seats of our parliaments and governments must not return to the European continent.”
