Sweden appoints Special investigator to strengthen Jewish life
The
Swedish government has appointed Maria Arnholm as a special investigator to
strengthen Jewish life in Sweden. The assignment includes mapping obstacles and
opportunities, as well as making proposals for a national strategy.
Maria Arnholm
is currently the governor of the County Administrative Board in Kronoberg
County and has a long past in the Swedish Parliament and at Government Offices,
serving as Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for
Education.
The
investigation is part of the Government’s work to protect the rights of
national minorities in Sweden. These include, among other things, the
language, culture and influence of the minorities.
The focus of
the investigation is the transmission of Jewish culture and Yiddish to younger
and future generations. The work will take place in close dialogue and
collaboration with the Jewish minority in Sweden.
